         (1) When an action was happening during a period of time in the past, we use "Past Continuous Tense".
( S) {1 d. g2 \; P7 g當一個動作是在過去某一段時間中正在進行的，我們便用「過去進行式」。
For example 例如：
8 E: h: d: [$ C1 A; V: O9 K% q& ]They were playing when Dad came home.
I was sleeping when my mother left home this morning.

(2) When we change the verb into "Past Continuous Tense" form, we write the verb in the following ways:
was / were + _______ing
! J9 h! C5 M9 j% X' @+ X; W當我們用「過去進行式」時，要把動詞寫成這樣子:
was / were + _______ing

  N  D- ~5 y) b. J) l1 N8 J(3) Usually, we use the "Past Continuous Tense" with the "Simple Past Tense" and we would use "when" or "while" to join the two actions in the sentence.

while + long action (Past Continuous Tense)

(4) How to form questions and negative sentences in "Past Continuous Tense"?

Questions:
Were they playing when Dad came home?

Negative sentences:

Past Continuous Tense:

Past Continuous Tense + Simple Past Tense:

Sharon and Connie were watching television when Mrs Lee went out last night.

Past Continuous Tense + Past Continuous Tense:
Sharon and Connie were watching television while Mrs Lee was cooking in the kitchen last night.
I was singing a song while Dad was playing the piano yesterday.
